Bristol…What’s the deal?

It’s good to hear that Bruton Smith is finally going to make some updates to the beloved Bristol Motor Speedway. In 2007, Bristol made some updates, most notably the progressive banking (a’la Homestead Speedway). I understand the idea of progressive banking, but when are people going to learn that it doesn’t work?

As a driver, the decision on where to place the car is really simple:

There’s only a few degrees of difference in the banking from bottom to top, so I’ll just shoot for the middle and that’ll make it hard to pass me on the bottom, and if someone looks high, I’ve got room to drift up.

I just don’t think progressive banking will ever work.

By the way, don’t forget to encase pit road so everyone has to enter/exit at the same place…That’s the only real way to even the playing field.
