No More Street Circuits!
I’m a big fan of IndyCar, and I’m really pulling for the series to rally from the crushing end to 2011, Danica’s switch and the new car. But I don’t understand the reasoning behind adding another street circuit.
From a fan perspective the visibility doesn’t get much worse, the passing opportunities are nearly non-existent and more importantly there’s a BRAND NEW, purpose built facility a few hours to the west (in Austin). It’s been a while since IndyCar and Formula 1 raced on the same circuit, the same year and it’d be cool to see how lap times compare, but more importantly this would be a big event. The fans would have a great experience, the sponsors/VIPs would love the accommodations and the racing would be incredible.
I realize that Shell/Pennzoil are huge supporters of IndyCar and so a home race (in Houston) makes sense, but Austin would’ve been SO much better for the series.
